BLANKET AWARDS
The Blanket Award is presented to students who have earned
nine or more varsity letters in three different sports. This year
we have five recipients, two male athletes, two female athletes and
one honorary. This highly coveted award goes to the truly elite of
Trinity's athletes. In the 70 years since it was established - 205
seasons ago - only 110 athletes and coaches have been named - 11 of
them honorary. Of the 99 earned awards, 55 have gone to men and 44
to women.
TRINITY CLUB OF HARTFORD TROPHY
Endowed by the Trinity Club of Hartford, this award is
comparable in every way to the McCook Trophy. The recipient is
selected by vote of the same committee of faculty and captains of
varsity teams. The winner must be a senior woman of good scholastic
standing and with distinction in athletics. Like the McCook winner,
she must have shown diligence and conscientiousness in drill,
training, discipline, and dependability in practice, courtesy,
self-control, uprightness and honor.
THE GEORGE SHELDON McCOOK TROPHY
This award is a gift given by George Sheldon McCook's
parents in 1902 to honor the memory of their son, Class of 1897. He
was a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams and
president of his class. Following graduation, he fought in the
Spanish-American war, went to Paris for post-graduate study, and
died there after a short illness. The recipient is selected
annually by a committee of the faculty and the captains of all
varsity teams. He must be a senior who exhibits diligence,
conscientiousness, courtesy, self-control, and honor at all times,
especially in athletic sports and contests. The winner's name
is engraved on a silver bar which is attached to the
trophy.
