Hartford, Conn. - As the fall semester winds to a close, this year's 12th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the basketball court and and wrestling mat. Women's basketball sophomore center Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) and sophomore wrestling captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Erickson averaged team-highs of 19 points and 5.5 boards per contest in Trinity’s two wins at the Ed Hockebury Invitational at Norwich last weekend. She scored a career-high 20 points in a 63-48 win over Bridgewater State and added 18 points in the tournament final versus Norwich. Erickson shot just under 60 percent from the floor all weekend and was named tournament MVP.
Sorensen finished the Ted Reese Invitational with a 5-1 record and a third-place finish at 149 pounds to lead Trinity to a seventh place team finish last weekend. Sorensen worked a pair of pins before his only loss on the day, to the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the country from Southern Maine who won the tournament at 149 pounds. Sorensen is 8-3 to begin the winter season.
