Hartford, Conn. - As we enter the final week of the winter break, this year's 16th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances in the pool and on the wrestling mat. Women's swimming and diving senior Eliza Maciag (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior wrestler Lucian Cascino (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Maciag had an impressive weekend for Trinity's women's swim and dive team, sweeping the backstroke events in a two-day span which the Bantams came away with three wins. On Friday against Brandeis, she won the 100-yard back by .60 seconds with a time of 1:03.85 and the 200-yard backstroke at 2:16.99 as Trinity came away with 156-114 win. On Saturday, Maciag followed up that performance with another two wins in backstroke events, winning the 100-yard at 1:04.19 and the 200-yard event at 2:17.64. Maciag was also a part of Trinity's 400-yard freestyle relay which finished second, just .07 seconds off the lead time.
Cascino won twice by fall, including a pin of the nation's No. 10-ranked heavyweight in just 42 seconds over the weekend at a tri-match at Roger Williams University. The junior collected six points for the Bantams with his wins by fall in just his second appearance of the year after battling back from an injury. In his season debut on January 7, Cascino worked two pins to reach the semifinals of the heavyweight division in the Scott Vieira Invitational.
