Hartford, Conn. - As we hit the halfway point in February, this year's 20th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances in the pool and on the squash courts. Women's swim and dive first-year Audrey Ettinger (New Canaan, Conn.) and men's squash sophomore Michael Craig (Belfast, Northern Ireland) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Ettinger capped off a stellar weekend at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships for the women's swimming and diving team with a 12th-place finals finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a lifetime-best time of 2:10.07. On Saturday, Ettinger broke her second record in as many days with a 13th-place time of 4:37.75 in the 400-yard IM finals. Ettinger shattered the 200-yard IM mark with a time of 2:11.69 to kick off the weekend on Friday with her time also coming as a lifetime-best.
Craig came through with the clinching win in a grueling, five-game battle against his opponent at the No. 4 spot on the ladder, leading the visiting Trinity College men's squash team to a 5-4 victory over the top-ranked and previously-undefeated Harvard University on Wednesday. Craig went down, 2-0, after the first two sets but grinded away to win the next three to seal the victory for Trinity. On Saturday against St. Lawrence, Craig cruised en route to a 3-0 sweep of his counterpart, yielding just 15 total points.
