Hartford, Conn. - As we enter the month of April, this year's 27th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the lacrosse field and tennis courts. Women's lacrosse junior goalie Zoe Ferguson (Ridgewood, N.J.) and men's tennis senior captain Rutendo Matingo (Weston, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Ferguson tallied 15 saves last week to lead the Bantams to a 12-9 victory over No. 8-ranked Bowdoin College. Ferguson's 15 saves are a season-high for the junior in a game where Trinity was outshot 29-19 but held the Polar Bears to just one first-half goal. Ferguson leads the NESCAC in save percentage (57.6, 9th in nation) and total saves (87).
Matingo won twice in singles and doubles last week to help the Bantams to a 1-1 week. Matingo grinded out a singles win (4-6, 6-3, 11-4) against Springfield in the top-spot of Trinity's lineup and also won in doubles play as Trinity came away with an 8-1 win. Against Tufts, ranked No. 6 in the region, Matingo won again in the top-singles spot (6-3, 6-1), and helped knock off the No. 9-ranked doubles pair in the region as Trinity was edged, just 5-4.
