Hartford, Conn. - With spring in full bloom, this year's 29th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the softball and baseball diamonds. Softball junior captain Michelle Treglia (Fairfield, Conn.) and baseball junior co-captain Brendan Pierce (Hingham, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Treglia was named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week after batting .500 with eight runs and seven RBIs in five Trinity wins last week. She added three walks for a .579 on-base percentage and hit her first-career homer for a .688 slugging percentage. Treglia had three multi-hit games, three multi-run games, and three multi-RBI games for the Bantams, who became the first divisional team ever to sweep Tufts.
Pierce hit a three-run homer and walked three times with four runs and four RBIs in an 18-3 win at Gordon. He was also 2-for-4 with a run scored in an 8-4 loss at Bowdoin and went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two walks in an 11-10 setback against the Polar Bears. He also pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout in the Gordon game and is currently second in the NESCAC in runs scored.
