Hartford, Conn. - With the winter sports season ready to kick off this weekend, this year's tenth Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the field hockey and football field. Junior field hockey forward Chandler Solimine (Pelham, N.Y.) and the junior football OLB Shane Libby (Scituate, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Solimine scored twice and assisted on another goal to help catapult the Bantams into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last week, their first appearance in the third round since the 2009 season. Solimine scored the game's first goal in Trinity's 5-3 first round victory over Gwynedd Mercy. She later added an assist on what would stand as the game-winner. In the team's second round matchup against No. 6-ranked Salisbury over the weekend, Solimine played hero, scoring the overtime game-winner in the 2-1 victory, lifting the Bantams to the third round of the tournament.
Libby led the Trinity defense with 10 tackles (nine solo), 3.5 tackles for loss, and a pair of sacks in last weekend's homecoming victory and NESCAC Championship clincher against in-state rival Wesleyan University. Libby led a Bantam defense that allowed just three points against the Cardinals, which puts them at 9.8 points allowed per game to conclude the season (4th in nation). Libby ranks third on the team with 40 total tackles and is tied for the team lead with 4.5 sacks.
