Trinity College To Add Women's Golf As 30th Varsity Sport In Fall Of 2018

Hartford, Conn. - Trinity College has announced the addition of women's golf to its list of varsity sports beginning in the fall of 2018. Women's golf will become the 30th varsity sport and the 15th for women at Trinity, which also becomes the 14th Division III school in New England and first Division III school in Connecticut to sponsor the sport. The Bantams will immediately be allowed to compete for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Golf Championship in 2018-19. Trinity becomes the seventh NESCAC school to sponsor the sport and this allows the conference champion to receive automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship Tournament next year.

"Trinity College is fully committed to supporting a broad-based athletic program providing educational and athletic opportunities for women," said Trinity Athletic Director Drew Galbraith. "Adding women's golf will enhance the opportunities for and experiences of female student-athletes at our institution. Specifically, women's golf will be a great addition to our varsity programs because of the interest among current and prospective students as well as the opportunity to compete for the NESCAC Championship."

Trinity sent women's golf individuals to the NESCAC Championships and other select tournaments in the fall of 2017, and junior Sarah Vimini (Easton, Conn.) was selected to represent Bantam women's golf on both the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team and the NESCAC Fall All-Sportsmanship Team.

"As a varsity sport, we will be able to compete as a team in the NESCAC and represent Trinity College while playing the sport we love," said Vimini. "Playing as individuals in the fall provided us with the opportunity to meet the coaches and players of other NESCAC schools and to start playing golf competitively again. I look forward to competing as a team in tournaments and developing a strong bond with all my Bantam teammates."

More program details will be announced in the coming weeks.
