Trinity Baseball Sweeps Colby

Waterville, Maine - Trinity College Bantam junior OF Marc Crowley (Andover, Mass.) smacked a two-run home run in the first game and the Bantams received solid pitching in both contests to take a 1/6-4/4 doubleheader sweep over the Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division action this afternoon.  Trinity moves to 14-5 overall and 3-0 in the NESCAC East, while the Mules fall to 7-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Freshman RHP Sean Meekins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) moved his record to 3-0 for Trinity with five strikeouts and four walks in four innings of the opening seven-inning game. First-year pitcher Anthony Redamonti (Trumbull, Conn.), who has not allowed an earned run in 11.2 innings of work this year, had four strikeouts and five walks in the nightcap, and reliever Peter Burrows (Floral Park, N.Y.) earned the win with four innings of work.

The Bantams scored six runs in the second inning to take control in the opening game. The Mules had four walks in the inning and Crowley hit his two-run home run to put the Bantams up 6-0. Michael Rueger (Teaneck, N.J.) scored on Crowley's homer after he had a two-run single.  The Mules got two runs back in the bottom of the second when Taro Gold (Belmont, Mass.) had a two-out single and then scored on a home run by Jason Buco (Methuen, Mass.), who had  a second long ball in as many days.

Walks hurt the Mules again in a two-run fourth inning for Trinity, which did not have a hit in the inning. Crowley had an RBI walk and Bryan Wolfe (La Habra Heights, Calif.) had a sacrifice fly to score the other run.  Gold scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it an 8-3 game, but Trinity once again scored two runs without the beneifit of a hit in the top of the fifth. The Bantams used two walks and two Colby errors to push the lead to 10-3. The Mules scored the final run in the seventh inning when Robb Arndt (Yarmouth, Maine) doubled and later scored on an RBI single by Brendan Gallagher (Dublin, N.H.).

In the second game, Colby held three leads in the contest. The Mules scored a lone run in the first when Luke Duncklee (Augusta, Maine) reached on an error and scored on an RBI single by Arndt.  Trinity scored a lone run in the second in the nine-inning contest. Stephen Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) led off the second with a single and later scored on a single by David Casanova (Bristol, Conn.).

Colby went up 2-1 in the fifth when Brandon Nieuw (Port Chester, N.Y.) led off with a single, stole second base, and then stole third and came around to score on a Trinity error.  The Bantams went up 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Casanova to score Rogers. Casanova later scored on a Colby error.  The Mules answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three walks and two Trinity errors. Nathan Ellis (Milton, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch and the other Mule run came from Buco on a Bantam error.  The Bantams went up for good with three runs in the seventh inning. Rogers had an RBI double to score Crowley, Auger added an RBI single that brought in Wolfe, and Casanova ripped an RBI double to plate Rogers.  Burrows allowed two baserunners in the ninth inning, but got out of the jam.
