Hartford, Conn., Nov. 12, 2009 -- The Trinity College football team, which is 5-2 after suffering its first back-to-back losses since 2001, will close the 2009 season against the Wesleyan University Cardinals on Saturday, Nov. 14 at noon at Jesse/Miller Field.
Inaugurated in 1877, Trinity's football program has enjoyed a
tradition of excellence for over 100 years, including the past
seven seasons that consisted of five NESCAC titles and an
undefeated (8-0) championship season in 2008. Coached by Jeff
Devanney, Trinity has the third-highest number of victories of any
Division III football program in New England and the second-best
all-time winning percentage among NESCAC schools. In the last
74 years, our football teams have won 70 percent of their
games.
The Bantams had six undefeated seasons before the New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) was founded in 1970. Since
then, they have topped the league or shared that position 11 times.
In 1993, they ranked No. 1 in New England, with an 8-0 record.
Since NESCAC adopted a league-only schedule in 1992, Trinity has
compiled a 105-31 record (.772), and finished atop the league in
1993, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008. In the past 29 years,
Trinity has had 28 seasons of .500 or better.
