Trinity Field Hockey Enters National Rankings For First Time in Ten Years
Hartford, Conn., Sept. 25 - The Trinity College field hockey team, which is 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC after a 5-1 win at Keene State on Wednesday, has made its season debut in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Poll as the No. 18 team this week. The Bantams, coached by Anne Parmenter (8th Season), are off to their best start since 1998 when the Bantams started the year with 10 straight wins en route to a 12-4 mark and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Final Four. Trinity will play at NESCAC rival Wesleyan on Sat., Sept. 27 at 11 a.m.
The Bantams opened the season with a pair of 8-0 shutouts against Westfield State and Eastern Connecticut, before winning their NESCAC opener, 3-0, at Connecticut College. The Bantams downed previously-undefeated Mass.-Dartmouth, 4-1, and league foe Colby, 3-2, before last night's victory at Keene State.
Senior co-captain forward Karli Del Rossi (Mantua, N.J.) was chosen as the NESCAC Player of the Week and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week for her outstanding performances against Mass.-Dartmouth and Colby. She had two goals against Mass.-Dartmouth and two more in the come-from-behind over Colby. Del Rossi is second in the NESCAC in scoring with 12 goals and an assist through six games.
Trinity is second in the NESCAC in both offense and defense with 5.20 goals per game and 0.60 goals allowed per game. Sophomore forward Christy Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.) ranks second on the team in scoring with six goals and five assists for 17 points, including a team-high four game-winning scores, while classmate Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) has five goals and five assists for 15 points, and junior forward Carrie Wolcott (Hamilton, Mass.) adds three goals and three assists for nine points.
Bantam senior co-captain Emily Skipp (Middlebury, Conn.), senior Megan Hannigan (Rye, N.Y.), and sophomore Brady Keeshan (Grenwich, Conn.) anchor a solid defensive front that has limited opponents to 37 shots in six games. Sophomore goalie Payden Sra (Pewaukee, Wisc.) has been equally solid in the cage with 18 saves and three goals allowed in 350 minutes in goal for an .857 save percentage and a 0.60 GAA.
