No. 17 Trinity Field Hockey Tops Williams in NESCAC Action
Hartford, Conn. – Senior Hadley Duncan (Ipswich, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the No. 17 Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1 win over the Williams College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action today at Robin Sheppard field. Trinity improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC, while the Ephs drop to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
"It was a great all-around team effort," said Trinity Head Coach Anne Parmenter. "We moved the ball well and found the open player, and didn't concede any corners which was a great statement by the defense. Plus, we scored on one of our corners."
Duncan scored her first goal with just under five minutes remaining in the first half, and started the second half with another, both assisted by first-year Olivia Tapsall (Old Greenwich, Conn.). Haley Thompson gave Trinity a 3-0 lead, scoring on a penalty corner in the 42nd minute. Williams responded less than four minutes later with their first goal of the game, netted by first-year Abigale Berlcrest (Harrison Township, Mich.), but Williams could not solve Trinity's defense otherwise.
Trinity outshot Williams 16-4 in the match, and Williams committed 32 penalties versus Trinity's 23. Trinity recorded six penalty corners, while Williams had none. Trinity first-year goalie Anne Scalambrino (Chicago, Ill.) needed just two saves for the win, while junior Ariana Spiliotes (Betesda, Md.) made nine stops in net for the Ephs.
