Parmenter Gets 200th Career Win as Bantams Cool Down Hot UMass-Dartmouth Field Hockey Team

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams scored three second half goals en route to their fourth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the visiting University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs on Robin Sheppard Field this evening, as Head Coach Anne Parmenter recorded her 200th career victory.  Trinity, ranked No. 16 in the nation, improves to 9-1 with its fourth straight win, while the Corsairs drop to 9-4, ending a six-game win streak.

The teams were tied 0-0 at halftime after the Bantams controlled the ball on the offensive end of the field for the majority of the first half, outshooting their opponent 13-3 in the opening stanza.  Trinity found their scoring touch in the second half, putting away three goals to ensure Parmenter a milestone and memorable win in her illustrious career.

“Just a great all around true Trinity team effort,” she said following the game. “I am proud to be a Bant tonight.”And there was plenty to be proud of, as Trinity, ranked No. 16 in the nation, came up with yet another big win as the team prepares for this Saturday’s meeting with No. 2-ranked Middlebury.

Strong defensive play denied the Corsairs any significant action in Trinity territory all night, as the Bantams outshot their opponent 25-4, setting up junior goalie Anne Marie Scalambrino (Chicago, Ill.) for her fourth shutout of the season.  First-year forward Olivia Tapsall (Old Greenwich, Conn.) scored the fifth goal of her rookie campaign and added an assist, while junior Paige Duke (Dedham, Mass.) and senior Hadley Duncan (Rye, N.Y.) each tallied a goal.  Duncan’s score was her seventh of the season, a team-high.

Scalambrino finished the game with two saves, while UMass-Dartmouth junior goalie Lauren O’Brien (Rochester, Mass.) racked up 11 saves in the match.  Trinity hosts NESCAC rival Middlebury on sat., Oct. 13 at 2 p.m.
