No. 12 Trinity Field Hockey Blanks Springfield
Hartford, Conn. – Senior co-captain midfielder Haley Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) got the scoring started and added two assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-0 shutout over the visiting Springfield College Pride in field hockey action this evening, under the lights on Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 12 in the nation, improves to 10-2 overall, while Springfield falls to 6-8 on the year.
Thompson's well placed shot came off a penalty corner early in the first half, and the Bantams continued to pour on the offense in the team's first game since moving up to No. 12 in the national rankings. Tonight's win marked Trinity's largest margin of victory since Nov. 12, 2008, when Trinity handed Neumann a 7-0 loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Supported by another strong showing by the Trinity defense, junior goalie Anne Marie Scalambrino (Chicago, Ill.) needed just one save to record her fifth shutout of the season, and her third in the last five games. Testament to the depth of the Trinity roster, six different Bantams found the back of the net, including sophomore Sophie Doering (Darien, Conn.), senior Hadley Duncan (Rye, N.Y.), first-years Olivia Tapsall (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and Brooke Heron (South Salem, N.Y.), and junior Paige Duke (Dedham, Mass.), who also assisted Thompson earlier in the game.
Trinity outshot Springfield 20-1 in the game. First-year goalie Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) recorded two stops in the game for Springfield.
