Trinity Men’s Basketball Earns Convincing Win Over New Jersey City
Hartford, Conn. - Four Bantams reached double figures to lead
Trinity College to a 78-45 thrashing of the New Jersey City
University Gothic Knights in men's basketball action this evening
at Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams improve to 5-9 overall,
while the Gothic Knights slip to 7-9 with the loss.
Trinity jumped out to a 13-0 lead behind inspired play on both ends
of the court by senior co-captain Aaron Westbrooks (Dublin,
Ireland), who finished the game with eleven points and
four assists. New Jersey City was able to cut the deficit to
seven points early in the second half, after Rashad Davis hit a
jump shot to bring the score to 29-22. The Bantams went on a
surge at that point, outscoring their opponent 46-23 the rest of
the way.
Sophomore forward Luke MacDougal (Baldwinsville,
N.Y.) opened the flood gates with a three-pointer, before
sophomore guard Jared Pimm (Chelmsford, Mass.) and
sophomore guard Brian Ford (Bronx, N.Y.) would
take over the game, combining for fourteen straight points,
including three three-pointers in the stretch. Ford finished
with a game-high fifteen points, while Pimm scored fourteen.
The duo combined for six three-pointers and a perfect 5-5 from the
foul line.
Senior guard Kyle Ingram (Sicklerville, N.J.) hit
four shots, including two three-pointers, to lead the Gothic
Knights with ten points. Sophomore forward Tim Dunn
(Holyoke, Mass.) added ten points for the Bantams.
Sophomore guards Ian Fels (Miami, Fla.) and
Salah Abdo (Chelsea, Mass.) combined for twelve
assists at the point guard position.
This was the first meeting between the teams. New Jersey City
has one of the countries longest streaks, at thirty-eight
consecutive seasons with a winning record.
Trinity will host NESCAC rival Amherst College, ranked No. 9 in the
nation, on Sat. Jan 24 at 3 p.m.
