Trinity Men's Basketball Falls Short At Williams In NESCAC Semifinals

Williamstown, Mass, – Troy Whittington had 31 points and eight rebounds to lead the Williams College Ephs to a 79-69 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Basketball Championship Semifinals this afternoon at Chandler Gymnasium.  Trinity closes the year with a 14-12 record, while the top-ranked Ephs improve to 25-1 and will face Middlebury College in the NESCAC Finals tomorrow at noon.

Williams held a 7-2 lead early but Trinity battled to tie it at 13-13 almost five minutes into the game.  The teams played even for the resy of the first half, before Williams guard James Wang hit a three-pointer to give the Ephs a 42-36 lead at the break.  Bantam senior guard Brian Ford (Bronx, N.Y.) led the visitors with 12 points in the first half.  Williams led, 46-38, with 17:24 left to play, but the Bantams again battled back as senior co-captain Jared Pimm (Chelmsford, Mass.) drilled a three-ball to cut the deficit to 46-45 at the 13:25 mark.  Williams answered with four straight points and extended to 61-51 with 5:45 on the clock

Ford finished with a team-high 20 points, while senior tri-captain forward Luke MacDougall (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) totaled 14 points and eight rebounds to finish his collegiate career with 997 points.  Wang added 23 for the Ephs. Both took 16 free throw attempts and shot 11 and 14 from the line respectively. The Ephs shot 47.7% today from the field.  Trinity shot 38.1% from the field.
