Trinity Golf Wins Three Tournaments In 2008
Hartford, Conn., Jan. 5, 2009 - The Trinity College golf team enjoyed an excellent fall season in 2008, highlighted by a second consecutive Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Championship title and first-place finishes in both the Trinity Shoot-Out and the Muhlenberg Invitational. The Bantams also finished second in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Qualifier at Middlebury, which allows the Bantams to compete for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships in the spring, and the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury, third in the Trinity Invitational, and fourth in the Williams Invitational. Trinity, coached by three-time, NESCAC Coach of the Year Bill Detrick (18th Season), finished 49-6-1 against all of their combined opponents this fall.
Freshman Jay Driscoll (Milton, Mass.) recorded the team's best score of the fall with a first-place two-round score of 140 in the ECAC Championships, while junior co-captain Reid Longley (Atlanta, Ga.) shot a 141 to take All-NESCAC and NESCAC Individual Medalist honors. Driscoll, who shot a 150 at the NESCAC Tourney and Longley, who became the fourth consecutive Trinity golfer to win medalist honors at the NESCAC Tournament and earns the NESCAC Outstanding Performer of the Year award for the second time in three seasons, both graced the All-NESCAC First Team this fall, while senior co-captain Josh Biren (Sudbury, Mass.) played his way onto the All-NESCAC Second Team with a score of 153. Longley was also Trinity golf's representative on the 2008 NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Freshman Alex Bermingham (Bedford, N.Y.) posted his best score of 146 in a fifth-place performance in the ECAC Tourney, while senior Alec MacColl (Centennial, Colo.) recorded his best score of 148 in both a fifth-place finish at Middlebury and a ninth-place performance at Williams. Junior David Anderson (Wellesley, Mass.) also posted his best score of the fall with a 151 in a 14th-place finish in the ECAC Tournament. Other top performances for the squad included a fourth-place score of 145 for Longley in the ECAC Tournament and a fourth-place score of 150 for Driscoll in the Trinity Invitational.
