Trinity Golf Finishes Third At NESCAC Qualifier, Two Bantams Earn All-League Honors
South Williamstown, Mass. - Sophomore Alex Bermingham (Bedford, N.Y.) finished second overall with a two-round score of 147, including the best single round of the weekend with a 67 this afternoon, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to third place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Golf Championship Qualifying Tournament this weekend at Waubeeka Golf Links.
Trinity was fifth after the first round in a tournament that sends the top four teams to the league's spring championship tournament to determine the NESCAC representative in the NCAA Championships. The Bantams shot a 294 on its second round, 15 strokes lower than its first 18 holes, to pass Tufts and Middlebury for third place. Williams won the tournament with a score of 595. Trinity senior co-captain Reid Longley (Atlanta, Ga.) shot a 75 in each round to finish tied for 10th overall at 150, while senior David Anderson (Wellesley, Mass.) tied for 20th at 154, and junior co-captain Jay Driscoll (Milton, Mass.) tied for 23rd at 155.
Some of the first round was pushed to early this morning due to rain delays yesterday. Longley was the defending individual medalist in this tournament, a title he has won twice, and the Bantams had boasted the last four individual medalists in the event, before Bermingham fell five strokes short of the first-place golfer this afternoon. Bermingham earned All-NESCAC First Team honors and Longley graced the All-NESCAC Second Team.
