Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Defeats Wesleyan in Roberts Tournament Semifinals
New London, Conn. - Junior forward Naoto Hamashima (Tokyo, Japan) scored the game-winning goal in the second period to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-2 win over the Wesleyan University Cardinals in the semifinals of the Douglas W. Roberts Men's Ice Hockey Tournament at Connecticut College this afternoon. Trinity improves to 2-1 with its second win in a row and advances to the tournament finals against the host Connecticut College Camels tomorrow at 4 p.m. Wesleyan fall to 1-2 and will Amherst in the consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Hamashima scored the clincherat 2:35 of the middle period that would prove to be the game-winner. Freshman Mike DeMayo (Seaford, N.Y.) assisted on the tying and game-winning scores for the Bantams. Junior Joseph Hanson (Weymouth, Mass.) was impressive between the pipes, stopping 40 Cardinal shots. The Bantams skated off 10-of-their 11 penalties for an excellent 91% efficiency on the penalty kill. Anthony DePietto (Westbury, N.Y.) and David Layne (Flourtown, Pa.) scored goals for Wesleyan. Tim Archibald (Wellesley, Mass.) had 28 saves in the setback.
