Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Advances In Assumption College Holiday Tourney


Worcester, Mass. - Freshman defenseman Michael DeMayo (Seaford, N.Y.) scored two goals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-3 win over the Becker College Hawks in the opening round of the Assumption College Holiday Men's Ice Hockey Tournament at Buffone Rink this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 4-3 with the win its first game in 23 days, and will play in the tournament finals against the host Assumption Ice Dogs tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

With the game tied at 1-1 after the first period, Bantam senior forward Riley Hicks (Calgary, Alberta) gave the Bantams the lead for good with the lone score of the second period on an assist by sophomore forward Adam Houli (Howell, N.J.).  DeMayo and fellow rookie Sean McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass.) scored just a minute apart early in the third frame to extend the Trinity lead to 4-1.  Hicks and McCarthy both also tallied assists for the Bantam offense, while sophomore goaltender Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) made 16 saves in the Trinity goal.  Senior Jim Ceglarek (Seattle, Wash.) scored twice, sophomore Andrew Corvo (Oak Park, Ill.) notched three assists, and junior goalie Tony Spoehr (DePere, Wisc.) made 29 saves for the Hawks.
