Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Trips Skidmore In Overtime

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - Junior forward Matt Quigley (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal in overtime and classmate Wes Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) made 39 saves in goal to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 win over the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East/New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this afternoon at Saratoga City Rink.  The Thoroughbreds fall to 5-7 overall and 4-3 in ECAC East, while the Bantams improve to 6-4-1 and 3-2-1 in the NESCAC.

Neither team could score during the first two periods with Thoroughbred goalie Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J.) and Vesprini matching each other save-for-save.  Skidmore junior Hunter Thayer (Shelburne, Vt.) broke a scoreless tie in the third period when he scored a 4-on-4 unassisted goal at the 7:40 mark.  Trinity answered right back when freshman Sebastian Kimmel (Chico, Calif.) scored on a power play at the 10:49 mark to tie it up.

The teams battled back and forth and forced overtime, until Quigley took a pass from junior forward Adam Houli (Howell, N.J) off a faceoff and got one past Bessey for the game-winner 3:56 into the overtime.  Skidmore outshot the Bantams, 40-33, while each team had four penalties for a total of eight minutes.  Bessey finished with 31 saves.
