Tyler Whitney's '18 hat-trick paced Trinity in a 6-1 win over Bowdoin on Saturday

Hartford, Conn. - Junior forward Tyler Whitney (Wakefield, Mass.) netted a hat-trick and added an assist to lead the way for the Trinity College men's hockey team in a 6-1 rout of the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at the Koeppel Center on Saturday afternoon. The No. 14-ranked Bantams improve to 13-6-3 overall and 9-5-2 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play while the Polar Bears fall to 8-14 on the year and 5-11 in league action.

Trinity dominated all game, finishing with a 53-25 shot advantage on its home ice. The Bantams also scored three of their six goals on the day while on the power play. Junior netminder Alex Morin (St. Hubert, Quebec) finished with 24 saves on the day as Trinity's defense made his job easier, allowing just 13 Polar Bear shots through the first two periods of play. Bowdoin goalie Peter Cronin (Norwell, Mass.) ended the game with 47 saves.

Bantam junior Anthony Sabitsky (Sicklerville, N.J.) potted his second goal in as many days at the 8:07 mark of the first period to get the scoring underway. After the Bantams set up their power play offense in Bowdoin's defensive zone, Sabitsky received a pass from Whitney at high post and rifled a wrist shot into the top shelf of the net to put Trinity up, 1-0.

Whitney scored his first goal of the game at the 10:17 mark in the second period when he potted the rebound off a shot by first-year Liam Feeney (Foxboro, Mass.) to open up a 2-0 lead for Trinity. Bowdoin cut into the lead when senior Matt Sullivan (Duxbury, Mass.) sent a clapper past Morin immediately off a faceoff in Trinity's defensive zone, won by classmate Brendan Conroy (Batavia, Ill.). Just 52 seconds later, however, Whitney found space at the back-side post of Bowdoin's net and scored on a one-timer thanks to a dish by senior captain Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.) to reclaim the two-goal advantage.

Feeney shoved in a goal during a scrum in front of Cronin after 7:56 of action in the final period after an initial shot by senior captain Will Sleeper (Wellesley, Mass.) was saved. Nearly five minutes later, senior captain Sam Johnson (Dallas, Texas) fired a slap shot on net from just inside the blue line which was originally saved by Cronin, however the rebound fell at the feet of sophomore Ryan Pfeffer (Canton, Mass.) who flicked the puck into the back of the net to open up a 5-1 lead. Whitney added his third score of the day with just over four minutes to play, set up by a nice hustle play by Bantam rookie Charlie Zuccarini (Shelton, Conn.). Zuccarini fell down near the puck at center ice but had the wherewithal to push the puck to a streaking Orlando who found himself with space and Zuccarini across from him for a 2-on-1. Orlando, who finished with four assists for the game, fed Whitney, who finished the job and beat Cronin to make it 6-1, Trinity.

The Bantams return to action next weekend for a home-away series with in-state rival, Wesleyan. The first game takes place in Middletown on Friday at 7 p.m.
