Trinity College Men's Lacrosse Players Earn Academic Awards
Hartford, Conn., August 31, 2009 - Trinity College men's lacrosse senior captain midfielder Connor Wells (Haddam, Conn.) was selected to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine College Division At-Large Academic All-District First Team, and joined fellow senior captain Zac Trudeau (Norwell, Mass.), senior Connor Hustava (St. Louis, Mo.), and junior Andrew Williamson (Sudbury, Mass.) on the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) 2009 Spring All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete voted to the ESPN The Magazine All-District Team must maintain at least a 3.20 g.p.a. and each NESCAC All-Academic honoree must be varsity letterwinner and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.
Trinity, coached by James Finlay (4th Season), recorded the third double-digit-victory season in Trinity's 49-year history at 10-6 and finished tied for sixth place with Amherst for sixth place in the NESCAC with a 4-5 league mark. The Bantams qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the third straight season, but dropped an 11-8 decision at Bowdoin in the quarterfinals.
Wells is a two-time, All-NESCAC First Teamer and a 2008 All-ECAC selection in the midfield and one of the top face-off specialists in the nation throughout his career. He played in and started all 16 games this spring, finishing third in NESCAC in ground balls with 7.75 per game (124) and fourth in the league in face-offs with a .569 percentage (169-297). He added two goals and an assist this spring. Also a wide receiver for the 2008 NESCAC Champion and undefeated Bantam football team, Wells was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Football Team, the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team, the All-NESCAC Football First Team, and the NESCAC Fall All-Sportsmanship Team in the autumn of 2008. In his career, Wells totaled six goals and six assists for 12 points with 467 groundballs and was 592-for-985 on face-offs for a .601 percentage in 58 games. He set the College's single-season records for ground balls (143) and face-off percentage (.698) in 2007. An alum of the Avon Old Farms School, Wells graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in biology. He is the son of Margo and Richard Wells.
Trudeau played in 15 games this spring and totaled 11 goals and five assists for 16 points with 13 ground balls. Also a captain and the starting goalkeeper for the Bantam soccer squad, Trudeau was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas College Scholar All-East Third Team, the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team, and the All-NESCAC Men's Soccer Second Team in the autumn of 2008. In his lacrosse career, Trudeau had 23 goals and 17 assists for 40 points with 56 ground balls in 52 games. An alum of Milton Academy, Trudeau graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in political science. He is the son of Nancy and Bill Trudeau.
Hustava played in 15 games in the Bantam midfield and totaled 13 goals (3rd on team) and eight assists for 21 points. In his career, which included two injury-plagued seasons, Hustava notched 15 goals and eight assists for 23 points in 27 games. An alum of Ladue Horton Watkins High School, Hustava graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in American Studies. He is the son of Suzy Besnia and John Hustava.
Williamson played in all 16 games at midfield and attack, totaling four goals and 11 assists (3rd on team) for 15 points. A graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury High School and a transfer in 2008 from Division I Providence, Williamson is majoring in biology at Trinity.
