Hartford, Conn. - Freshman attacker Matt Chlastawa (Westfield, Mass.) had four goals and an assist to lead the visiting Bates College Bobcats to a 14-7 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field.  Trinity falls to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the NESCAC, while the No. 8-ranked Bobcats stay perfect at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Trinity led, 2-1, just over six minutes into the game, as first-year attackman Matt Gardiner (Potomac, Md.) assisted junior attackman Jack Sharrio (Marblehead, Mass.) on a man-up, game-tying goal with 9:03 on the clock and scored just 11 seconds later when sophomore Scott Morgan (Grand Rapids, Mich.) won the ensuing faceoff, scooped the ground ball, and fed Gardiner for the score.  Chlastawa answered with a game-tying tally for Bates from senior attackman Andrew Melvin (Medfield, Mass.) at the 7:35 mark of the first quarter, and Bobcat senior tri-captain (Falmouth, Maine) converted on a feed by senior tri-captain midfielder Kyle Weber (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) on what proved to be the game-winner during a man-up situation for the visitors with 4:27 left in the opening frame.  Weber and Chlastawa added two more Bates goal to put Trinity in a 5-2 hole after 15 minutes of play.

Each team scored twice in the second quarter, including the first in the career of Trinity first-year attackman (Essex, Conn.) to make the score, 5-3, with 9:16 on the clock.  Sharrio assisted on the goal and scored the second man-up from Gardiner to pull Trinity to within two again at 6-4 with 4:49 remaining before intermission.  Weber gave the Bobcats a 7-4 lead at the break with an unassisted tally at the 2:39 mark of the second stanza. Ferrucci scored for Trinity just under two minutes into the third quarter, taking advantage of caused turnover and ground ball by senior defenseman Henry Pierandi (Ridgefield, Conn.), but Bates took control with a 6-0 run that spilled into the fourth quarter and included two goals apiece by Chlastawa and Melvin.  Sophomore attackman Max Herman (San Francisco, Calif.) and Ferrucci scored late goals for the home squad.

Sharrio paced Trinity offensively with two goals and two assists, while Ferrucci finished with a hat trick, and Gardiner notched three points on a goal and two assists.  Pierandri, Gardiner, and senior co-captain defenseman Aidan Keohane (Westwood, Mass.) picked up three ground balls each for Trinity, while sophomore Matt Fleischmann (Cincinnati, Ohio) caused two turnovers, and junior Woody Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass.) made 19 saves and added a pair of ground balls in the Bantam goal.  Melvin and Weber finished with two goals and one assist apiece for Bates, while senior Sam Francis (Newburyport, Mass.) won 13 of 19 faceoffs and scooped a game-high nine ground balls.  Bobcat sophomore Mitchell Drake (Annapolis, Md.) made 11 of his team's 12 saves and added two ground balls to improve to 4-0 in goal.  Bates outshot Trinity, 49-27, forced 22 turnovers while committing 18, and had 10 more ground balls than the Bantams with 47 to offset six penalties resulting in Trinity goals.
