Current and Former Trinity Men's Rowers Take On The World This Summer
World Rowing Championship Racing Begins Monday, August 24
West Windsor, N.J. - Trinity College men's rowing alumni Peter Graves'07, Tom Graves '05, and Brian DeRegt'09 have each been selected to the 2009 United States National Men's Rowing Team that will compete in the World Championships in Poznan, Poland from August 23-30. Peter and Tom Graves will make up both halves of the US double sculls pair, while DeRegt will row as a member of the US lightweight men's four crew without coxswain.

Rowing Championship trials on Mercer Lake over top crews
from the United States Training Center. Their time of
6:17 was one of the fastest times for double sculls in several
years in the United States.
A third Graves brother, John, who will be Trinity's men's
soccer and men's rowing captain for the Bantams in his senior year
in 2009-10, recently returned from the Czech Republic
competing for Team USA in the U23 World
Championships with DeRegt, fellow Bantam alum Eli Roxby '09, and
current Trinity team members Nate Kelly'11, and
Will Kelly'11. DeRegt also competed in
the World Cup in Switzerland in July. John Graves and Roxby
represented the USA in the Under-23 World Championships in the
men's pair without coxswain category, after winning the U-23 trial
with a time of 7:29.4. Nate Kelly rowed with his partner
Sebastian Kirwan, from Columbia University, in the men's
double category, after winning the U-23 trial in a time of
7:03.4. Will Kelly represented his country in the men's
lightweight quadruple sculls category. He was the bow
man for the crew which won the event with a time of 6:44.9 at the
trials.
Recently retired Trinity Head Men's Rowing Coach Larry Gluckman coached Graves and Roxby in the pairs and will assist with other Team USA crews at the World Championships. In addition, Peter Graves coached the winning crew in the junior men's double category at the Junior World Championship Trials. That crew, from Long Beach, Calif., will represent America in the Junior World Championships in Brive-La-Gaillarde, France. Not to be outdone, the Graves' brothers father, Harry Graves'78, will be on the US National Team coaching staff in Poland.
