Trinity's Men's Four Wins Petit Final At NIRC Regatta

Worcester, Mass. - The Trinity College men's four won the petit final by over eight seconds at the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) Regatta this afternoon on Lake Quinsigamond. Trinity's varsity eight won the third-level final by more than six seconds and its second-varsity eight came in fifth in the petit final, as the Bantams closed the 2016-17 season.  Trinity scored 20 points to tie Colby and Massachusets for 13th in the Overall Points Trophy Standings and 44 points to claim 13th outright in the Combined Overall Points Trophy Standings.

The Bantam four finished less than one second out of the grand final with a fourth-place time of 7:05.65 in its preliminary heat, but ran away with the petit final with a time of 7:04.213 which was also better than five of the six times in the grand final.  Trinity's varsity eight was also less than a second from qualifying for the petit final and posted a time in its final of 6:12.894 that was faster than all boats but the winner in the petit final.  In the second-varsity eight heat, Trinity came in fourth place in its heat to qualify for the petit final, finishing less than a second behind fourth-place Rochester Tech and 5.7 secongs ahead of sixth-place Williams in that race.
