Trinity Men's Soccer Trio Collects Post-Season Awards


Hartford, Conn., Dec. 23, 2008 - Trinity College men's soccer junior forward Sam Wisner (Wayland, Mass.) was named to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III All-New England First Team and the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Soccer All-Conference First Team, while Bantam senior forward Nick Cantone (New York, N.Y.) was selected to the NSCAA Division III All-New England Second Team and the All-NESCAC Second Team, and senior goalkeeper Zac Trudeau (Norwell, Mass.) graced the 2008 All-NESCAC Second Team.   

The Trinity men's soccer squad, coached by Michael Pilger (fifth Season), posted its best overall record since 1999 at 11-5 and had a 5-4 mark in the NESCAC. The Bantams defeated Tufts, 2-0, to win the first NESCAC Championship Tournament game in the program's history before falling against Amherst, 1-0, in the semifinals.

Wisner started all 15 games in which he played and tied Cantone for the team lead in goals with eight (0.53 per game, 5th in NESCAC) to go with a team-high eight assists (0.53 per game, 1st in NESCAC) for 24 points (1.60 per game, 4th in NESCAC).  He took 34 shots and led the Bantams with three game-winning goals.  Wisner was selected as the NESCAC Player of the Week once this fall.  A graduate of Wayland High School and a transfer this year from Hobart College, Wisner is majoring in political science at Trinity.  He is the son of Kata Hull and Chuck Wisner.

Cantone started all 16 games and finished with eight goals (0.50 per game, 7th in NESCAC) and seven assists (0.44 per game, 4th in NESCAC)) for 23 points (1.44 per game, 3rd in NESCAC).  He took a team-high 38 shots and recorded a pair of game-winning goals.  For his fine career, Cantone finished with 12 goals and 11 assists for 35 points in 51 games.  A graduate of the Salisbury School in Connecticut, Cantone is majoring in sociology at Trinity.  He is the son of Jeannette and Reto Cantone.

Trudeau led the NESCAC in saves with 97 and was second in the league in save percentage at .874, while recording six shutouts (3rd in NESCAC).  Trudeau was in goal for all but 31 of the goalkeeping minutes (1,455) and posted an 11-5 mark, finishing with 14 goals allowed for a 0.87 GAA (4th in NESCAC).  Trudeau was the NESCAC Player of the Week once this season and earned NESCAC All-Academic honors this fall. For his career, Trudeau appeared in 47 games and 3,390 minutes in goal with 227 saves for a .819 save percentage and 50 goals allowed for a 1.33 GAA with a 16-19 record and eight shutouts.  A graduate of Milton Academy, Trudeau is majoring in economics and political science at Trinity.  He is the son of Nancy and Bill Trudeau.
