Trinity's Allen, Trudeau, And Vallieres Earn Academic Awards For Men's Soccer


Hartford, Conn., July 7, 2009 - Trinity College men's soccer senior tri-captain goalkeeper Zac Trudeau (Norwell, Mass.) was selected to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas College Scholar All-East Third Team and joined fellow Bantam seniors Nick Allen (Seattle, Wash.) and Brice Vallieres (Utica, N.Y.) on the 2008 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.

Trinity, coached by Michael Pilger (5th Season), posted its best overall record since 1999 at 11-5 and had a 5-4 mark in the NESCAC. The Bantams defeated Tufts, 2-0, to win the first NESCAC Championship Tournament game in the program's history before falling against Amherst, 1-0, in the semifinals. 

Trudeau, an All-NESCAC selection, led the conference in saves with 97 and was second in the league in save percentage at .874, while recording six shutouts (3rd in NESCAC).  Trudeau was in goal for all but 31 of the goalkeeping minutes (1,455) and posted an 11-5 mark, finishing with 14 goals allowed for a 0.87 GAA (4th in NESCAC).  Trudeau, named as the NESCAC Player of the Week once this season, is also a NESCAC Spring All-Academic honoree in lacrosse for the Bantams. For his career, Trudeau appeared in 47 games and 3,390 minutes in goal with 227 saves for a .819 save percentage and 50 goals allowed for a 1.33 GAA with a 16-19 record and eight shutouts.  An alum of Milton Academy, Trudeau graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in political science.  He is the son of Nancy and Bill Trudeau. 

Allen, a two-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree, played in nine games in 2008 as a back and a midfielder.  A four-year letterwinner with nine career starts, Allen played 38 games with one assist in his collegiate career.  An alum of Nathan Hale High School, Allen graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in mathematics.  He is the son of Ruthann and Lee Allen.

Vallieres appeared in nine games last fall at forward. A three-year letterwinner, Vallieres played in 33 games with four goals and one assist in his collegiate career.  An alum of Notre Dame High School, Vallieres graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in biochemistry.  He is the son of Penh and David Vallieres.
