Cantone And Wisner Lead Trinity Men's Soccer To Season Opening Win

Hartford, Conn. - Senior forward Nick Cantone (New York, N.Y.) scored twice and junior forward Sam Wisner (Wayland, Mass.) added a goal and two assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5-0 win in their season-opening men's soccer game against the visiting Albertus Magnus College Falcons this afternoon.  The Falcons drop to 1-2 with their second consecutive shutout loss.

Wisner opened the scoring with goal in the 10th minute, assisted by junior back Jason Kulik (Salem, Mass.), and Bantam freshman forward Dan Mayernick (Gladwyne, Pa.) netted his first career score on a corner kick to give Trinity a 2-0 advantage at the break.  The Bantam defense, led by Kulik, senior tri-captain Phil Yeager (Hinsdale, Ill.), fellow junior John Graves (Cincinnati, Ohio), and sophomore Doug Stupay (McLean, Va.), held the Falcons to just one shot in the first half.

Cantone scored both of his goals in the second half on assists by Wisner, and Bantam junior forward Adam Lanza (Glen Cove, N.Y.) lofted a perfect ball from the left side over the goalie's head to sophomore forward Jamie Paterson (Alpine, N.J.) that resulted in Paterson's first career score on a header.  Trinity senior goalkeeper Zac Trudeau (Norwell, Mass.) earned the win with two saves, while Falcon sophomores Gerald O'Connor (Hamden, Conn.) and Dan Mihalyak (West Haven, Conn.) combined for six stops.
