Trinity Men's Soccer Trounces Previously Unbeaten Williams

Williamstown, Mass. - Sophomore goalie Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) made nine saves and recorded a shutout and senior forward Adam Lanza (Glen Cove, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams, 3-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 24 in the nation, improves to 8-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the NESCAC, while Williams, ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 7 nationally, falls to 8-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the league. The regular season win is the second in a row for the Bantams at Williams.
With 28 minutes remaining in the game, Lanza, with his back to the Eph net and the ball at his feet, turned and fired an absolute lazer from 25 yards out that traveled on a line and split Eph goalkeeper Andrew Graham's hands and into the top shelf of the net to give the Bantams a 1-0 lead. After a miscue between Graham and the Eph defense gave Trinity a corner kick, Bantam senior tri-captain midfielder John Graves (Cincinnati, Ohio) knocked home a second goal for the visitors. Two minutes later as the Ephs were caught out of position, Bantam junior midfielder Peter Marlette (Buffalo, N.Y.) broke away and flicked a shot over the top of Graham to make it 3-0 with 19 minutes to play.
