Trinity Men's Soccer Trips Bates In Overtime

Lewiston, Maine - Sophomore forward Dan Mayernick (Gladwyne, Pa.) scored the game's only goal in the 96th minute to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon at Russell Street Field. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in New England, improves to 4-0-1 and 2-0-1 in the NESCAC, while the Bobcats fall to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the league.
On the game-winning play, Mayernick took a crossing pass from junior midfielder Peter Marlette (Buffalo, N.Y.) near the goal. Mayernick and Bobcat sophomore goalie Greg Watts (West Chester, Pa.) collided, and the ball found its way into the net for the game-winner.
Trinity held an 11-9 overall shot advantage in a very evenly played game. Watts recorded four saves for the Bobcats, while his counterpart, Bantam sophomore Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.), turned in three saves.
