Trinity Men's Squash Trio Takes NESCAC All-Academic Honors
Hartford, Conn., Aug. 6, 2009 - Three Trinity College men's squash players were selected to the 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic Teams. Men's squash senior captains Gustav Detter (Malmoe, Sweden) and Rushabh Vora (Mumbai, India) and senior Ian MacGregor (Palm Beach, Fla.) were each selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or a key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average. Detter, Vora, and MacGregor are each two-time NESCAC All-Academic selections.
Trinity, coached by Paul Assaiante (14th Season), finished the 2008-09 season with its 11th straight perfect season at 19-0 and captured its third straight NESCAC Championship title, its 12th straight Intercollegiate Squash Association Dual Match title, and its 11th consecutive College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship crown. The Bantams extended the longest known winning streak in the history of intercollegiate varsity sports to 202 triumphs in a row.
Detter, a four-time All-American and a two-time, 2008 NESCAC First Team selection, was honored as Trinity's McCook Award recipient as the College's top senior male athlete, as the NESCAC Player of the Year, to the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team, and as the CSA Skillman Trophy recipient for on-court poise and demeanor, skill level and ability in the game of squash, team play, contribution to intercollegiate squash, leadership, and cooperation with players, coaches, and tournament officials in 2008-09. Detter had a 17-2 record (T2nd on team in wins) this season, playing the No. 2 position, and finished as the No. 4-ranked player in the nation. He closes his career with a 65-11 record. An alum of Latinshobin School, Detter graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in economics. He is the son of Ingegerd and Leif Detter.
Vora, an All-American in 2007, was 12-3 this winter often playing at the No. 9 spot in the lineup. He closes his career with a 48-6 record. An alum of H.R. College, Vora graduated from Trinity in May with a degree ineconomics. He is the son of Rajesh and Sunayana Vora.
MacGregor, who was 3-0 this season and 6-0 in his career, is an alum of the Groton School in Massachusetts. He graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in philosophy and is the son of Connie and Ian MacGregor.
