Trinity Men’s Squash Blanks Harvard, Will Battle Princeton for 11th Straight National Title
Princeton, N.J. - The Trinity College men's squash team cruised by the Harvard University Crimson 9-0 for Trinity's 201st consecutive victory at Princeton University this afternoon in the semifinal game of the College Squash Association Potter Cup National Championship tournament. The win put the top-ranked and top-seeded Bantams into the national championship final against the No. 2-seeded Princeton University Tigers tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Princeton.
"We played very sharp today," Trinity coach Paul Assiante said. "We need to carry that over to tommorrow."
Trinity, defending its national championship crown for the 10th year in a row, improves to 18-0 and extends the longest active winning streak in any intercollegiate varsity sports to 201 matches. The Bantams last loss came to Harvard, 5-4, in the CSA National Championship Finals to end the 1997-98 season.
Historically, Princeton has played Trinity well. The Bantams escaped with a 5-4 win over the Tigers last Sat. in the regular season finale for their 199th consecutive victory. This is the fourth consecutive finals appearance for Princeton.
"It's going to make for a great Sunday of squash," said Princeton head coach Bob Callahan. "These are two teams who have had great seasons, looking to end on a high note."
