Trinity Men's Squash Player's Blog by Jay Kramer'12: Entry #1
The Right Choices
This past week has been both a busy and exciting time in our season. Players returned from break in great shape knowing full well the heart of the season is still in front us. I am also happy to announce two new additions to our squash family that will help make our team stronger then ever. Moustafa Hamada is a new freshman from Alexandria, Egypt with loads of potential. He will strengthen the top of our ladder and continue to move up the Trinity squash ranks, as he continues to grow as a player and person. Vrishab Kotian is our other new brother in arms. He comes to us from Mumbai, Indian with a solid court presence and hands softer then a baby’s cheek. Kotian showed a lot of heart in his first collegiate win against Franklin & Marshall. We look forward to watching these two forge their Trinity legacies.
My player of the week is Vikram Malholtra. Vikram has put on a trio of spectacular performances defeating Cornell, Franklin & Marshall, and professional squash player Ryan Cuskelly (World Rank #36) in an exhibition tilt. This speaks to Vikram’s talent and ability as a squash player and shows why Coach says, “Vikram truly is a world-class player.” More importantly it has been his example as captain and leadership off the court that has impacted our team. He shows us how hard work and making the right choices, not most of the time, but 100% of the time is how champions are made.
Today the team is excited to meet its next challenge at the raucous Yale University squash courts. It will be an interesting test for all the players involved as the crowd will be loud, courts will be hot, and the ball will be flying. The team is not scared headed into this battle. We are ready. Matt Mackin says, “We have worked hard for this moment, and now it’s time to get it done. It will be an exciting match where, as Coach says, it will really bring out the true character in a player.”
