Trinity Men's Squash Looks To Avenge Streak-Ending Loss Against Yale

Hartford, Conn., Jan. 22, 2013 - The Trinity College men's squash team will host the Yale University Bulldogs on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Kellner Center at 6 p.m. Trinity is ranked No. 2 in the College Squash Association (CSA) National Polls, while the Bulldogs are ranked No. 4 nationally. Trinity last played Yale on January 18 of last year when the Bulldogs handed the Bantams their first loss since 1998 in New Haven by a score of 5-4.  The loss ended Trinity's streak of 252 consecutive victories, which was the longest known winning streak in the history of intercollegiate varsity sports.  Trinity and Yale also matched up in the 2010 and 2011 CSA National Championship Finals with both of those matches ending in 5-4 Bantam victories.  The men's match, which will run concurrently along with the No. 5-ranked Trinity women taking on the No. 3-ranked Yale women, will be webcast live at www.trincoll.edu/livevideo.

Trinity, coached by Paul Assaiante (19th season), is 8-0 and has won 152 consecutive home matches dating back to the 1995-96 season. Trinity has outscored its opponents by a combined score of, 67-5, this winter, having downed No. 8-ranked Dartmouth, 8-1, on January 15 and blanked Pennsylvania, 9-0, on January 19. 

Sophomore Moustafa Hamada (Alexandria, Egypt) leads the Bantams in wins with a 7-0 record, while senior co-captain Johan Detter (Malmoe, Sweden), sophomores Miled Zarazua (Mexico City, Mexico) and Vrishab Kotian (Mumbai, India), and first-year Zeyad Elshorafy (Alexandria, Egypt) are each 6-0, and senior co-captain Reinhold Hergeth (Bloemfontein, South Africa), who played No. 1 for Trinity in the Penn match, is 5-0.  Detter was ranked No. 21 nationally among individuals at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Yale, coached by David Talbott, is 7-0 in after downing Bowdoin, 8-1, on Sunday.  The Bulldogs already own an 8-1 win at No. 6-ranked Cornell and defeated No. 5-ranked Rochester, 6-3, at home on Saturday. Seniors Kenneth Chan (Singapore) and Richard Dodd (Benoni, South Africa) were ranked among the nation's top 25 players at the close of 2011-12.
