Men's Squash Coach Newsletter
2010-11 Newsletter - October
Dear Friends,
I hope that this email finds you well and looking forward to the upcoming holiday season and also coincidentally our squash season!
Our season as always started off with midnight madness and as you can see from the photo above, it was its usual enjoyable event.
We are thrilled to have Coach Vargas with us this year, after graduating last year as a four time all American. Coach V, played this summer at the world championships and the most prestigious Pan American games while representing Colombia. Sadly we said farewell to coach Reggie Schonborn who is now coaching at Harvard, and so we are happy for them and him.
We are so very excited about how hard these boys are working this season! Our senior leadership of Vikram Malhotra and Antonio Diaz set a ferocious tone in the fall with captains practice and have not let up with our beginning on Nov 1. The squad is still very much in flux, but we have Miled Zarazua from Mexico starting in January and he moves like a butterfly. Returnee’s Rheinhold Hergeth, Juan Flores, Johan Detter, Matt Mackin and Greg Crane are truly “stepping up” and we are excited to have the arrival of transfer student Juan Diego Lopez in the mix. Bomb squad returnees, Kramer, Bullen, Drennan and Shilling are giving us good leadership and their own special flavor in the mix that is our soup.
New players to the squad are Elroy Leong, John Lamont, Pranay Merchant, Rob Zindman, Alexander Lynch and George Tilghman.
We recently admitted Vrishab Kotian for January and he will add much depth to our squad. He will be arriving after playing for India at the British Open in January.
Over the last 13 years we have worked hard to set the bar higher than it has ever been in college squash. The rest of the pack has risen to that bar, with Harvard, Cornell, Yale, Princeton and Rochester being better than ever and we are excited to see how we will match up with the stronger squads. It is an honor for a small school like Trinity to be mentioned in the same breath with these powerhouse institutions, and something that we never take for granted
As you know we are off line as a sport and so we need to raise all of the monies annually to keep our program afloat. This from bus travel, to hotels, to meals to the boys equipment needs.
If you are in a position to contribute and are so inclined that would be a wonderful thing and you can simply reach out to me directly as to how to do this. I will need to raise around 60K this season.
Again,
I hope that we will see you at the courts sometime this season and know how proud we will be to wear the blue and gold onto the courts and try to maintain the awesome legacy that so many of you are proud of.
