Hartford Conn. - First-year Nick Celestin (Woodbridge, Conn.) took fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a College-record time of 1:53.58, as the Trinity College Bantams competed in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend at Wesleyan University. Trinity totaled 377 points to finish 11th in the team standings, while Williams won the team title with 1,936.5 points.
Junior co-captain Mark Yanagisawa (Woodbridge, Conn.), juniors Brendan Kelley (Westborough, Mass.) and Max Ma (Nanjing, China), and Celestin starred for Trinity on the first day in the 400-yard medley relay with a College-record time of 3:33.04. Celestin posted a provisionally-qualifying time for the NCAA Division III Championships of 51.65 in his leg of the relay that also set a new Bantam record, and another College-record time of 24.78 during his leg of Trinity's 200-yard medley relay race on Friday. On Saturday, Celestin led off the 200-yard medley relay with a College-record-breaking time of 23.99 in the 50-yard backstroke, and added another College-record time of 51.65 in the 100-yard butterfly. His backstroke performance, combined with the respective times of senior co-captain John Feminella (Millburn, N.J.) and Kelley and Ma broke the Trinity record in the event with a relay time of 1:36.11.
"I am so proud of our team and how we performed this weekend," said Trinity Head Coach Kristen Noone. "We had so many lifetime-best times and ourschool records fell more than ten times over. It was a long, exhausting weekend, and the guys to the occasion for each session."
