Three Men's Tennis Senior Close Fine Careers at Trinity

Hartford, Conn., August 18, 2008 - The Trinity College men's
tennis team, coached by Paul Assaiante (14th
Season), finished the season with a 13-3 overall record
and a 7-1 mark in the NESCAC, qualifying for the league
championship tournament for the second straight season. The
Bantams earned the top seed in the league tourney, but lost to
eventual champion Bowdoin, 6-3, indoors at Middlebury in the NESCAC
Semifinals. Trinity qualified for its eighth NCAA Division
III Championship Tournament in the last 10 years as an at-large
selection and advanced to the third round with 5-1 win over Vassar
before falling at Middlebury, 5-1, indoors to close the
season. The Bantams finished ranked No. 4 in the ITA Division
III Northeast Regional Poll and No. 13 in the ITA Division III
National Poll.
Junior Gautam Samarth (Pune, India) recorded a
perfect winning percentage with a 12-0 singles record, while
sophomore Spencer Feldman (Upper Brookville, N.Y.)
totaled a team-high 15 wins against seven singles losses.
Junior David Yahng (Needham, Mass.) was 10-2 in
singles, while senior co-captain Thomas Dolan (Shrewsbury,
Mass.) posted an 11-3 singles mark, and senior co-captain
Brett Ramsay (Glastonbury, Conn.) won nine of his
15 singles matches. Freshman David Dessau (New York,
N.Y.) was 5-1 in his rookie campaign, and classmate
D.J. Patrick (Atlanta, Ga.) went 7-5.
In doubles, the Dolan/Ramsay duo led the team with a 12-3 record,
Feldman/Patrick finished, 10-3, and Samarth/Yahng posted a 9-3
mark, as the Bantams fielded a consistent trio of doubles tandems
almost every time out.
Feldman reached the NCAA Division III Singles Quarterfinals to earn
All-American honors in 2007-08, while joining the Samarth/Yahng
doubles team on the All-NESCAC First Team. Ramsay graced the
All-NESCAC Second Team and was named to the NESCAC
All-Sportsmanship Team, while Samarth collected Academic
All-American, Academic All-District, and NESCAC All-Academic
recognition, and received the College's junior male scholar athlete
of the year award. Dolan graced both the NESCAC All-Academic
Team and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar
Athlete list, while senior Jeff Stempeck (Reading,
Mass.) also earned NESCAC All-Academic recognition.
In his excellent tennis career, Ramsay was 38-32 in singles and
47-27 in doubles with several partners. He was a three-time,
all-league honoree in doubles and twice in singles, while taking
All-American honors in doubles in 2006. Dolan closes his fine
career with a 26-18 singles record and a 38-17 doubles mark with
several partners, while Stempeck finishes his career at 10-1 in
singles and.6-4 in doubles. Dolan was 14-4 in doubles with
Ramsay and 4-1 with Stempeck the last four years.
