Trinity's Samarth and Patrick Win ECAC Men's Tennis Doubles Championship
Hartford, Conn. - Senior co-captain Gautam Samarth (Pune, India) and sophomore D.J. Patrick (Atlanta, Ga.) won, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the finals of the doubles flight to lead the host Trinity College Bantams to a third-place finish in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Tennis Championships this afternoon. Trinity finished with 14 points, just .5 shy of second-place Fairfield and 1.5 points behind ECAC Champion Delaware.
Three Trinity singles players had advanced to different flight finals on Saturday. Freshman Anson McCook (Miami, Fla.) lost, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) in the "b" flight finals this afternoon, junior Nick White (Wellesley, Mass.) lost, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5, in the "c" flight finals, and senior co-captain David Yahng (Needham, Mass.) fell, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, in the "d" flight finals for the Bantams. Samarth and Patrick went 3-0 in the two-day tournament to capture the ECAC doubles title, while McCook, White, and Yahng were all 2-1 this weekend. All but one of the 12 combined opponents of Trinity's finalists were from Division I schools.
