Trinity Men's Tennis Falls To Bowdoin In NESCAC First Round
Williamstown, Mass. - The Bowdoin College Polar Bear men's tennis team took a 3-0 advantage in doubles play and claimed a pair of singles wins to take a 5-3 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in the opening round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Tournament this morning at Williams College. Trinity, seeded No. 5 in the tourney and ranked No. 19 in the nation, falls to 10-7, while the Polar Bears, seeded No. 5 and ranked No. 11 nationally, improves to 11-5 and will play the top-seeded Williams College Ephs in the semifinals tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Bowdoin, which had lost two of three doubles matches to the Bantams in a 5-4 Polar Bear victory in California in March, swept the doubles matches and took the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches in straight sets. Trinity fought back from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play, as junior Spencer Feldman (Upper Brookville, N.Y.), ranked No. 6 in the Northeast, defeated No. 3-ranked Stephen Sullivan in straight sets and senior co-captain Gautam Samarth (Pune, India) surprised No. 12-ranked Oscar Pena at the No. 2 spot. Bantam freshman Anson McCook (Coconut Beach, Fla.) added a 6-3, 7-6 triumph at third singles.
