Middlebury Men's Tennis Defeats Trinity
Middlebury, Vt. - First year Anson McCook (Miami, Florida) took the win at the No. 3 spot in the No. 3 singles matches over Middlebury College sophomore Andrew Lee (Eden Prairie, Minn.), but the visiting Trinity College Bantams fell to the Panthers, 6-3. Junior Nick White (Wellesley, Mass.) added a second singles win at the No. 5 spot for the Bantams. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the Northeast and No. 17 in the nation, falls to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC with its first loss in five matches, while the Panthers, ranked No. 2 in the Northeast and No. 6 nationally, improves to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the league.
Middlebury took two of three doubles matches to grab a 2-1 lead. Senior Gautam Samarth (Pune, India) and first year Charles McConnell (Southampton, N.Y.) took the No. 3 doubles match, and the Bantams evened the score with McCook's win. The Panthers took a 4-2 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win by Andy Peters (Baltimore, Md.) and a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1 by Conrad Olson (Waterloo, Belgium). Trinity cut the margin to 4-3, before Peter Odell (Scarsdale, N.Y.) clinched the victory with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
