Trinity Men's Tennis Wins At Whittier In Spring Opener And First Dual Match

Whittier, Calif. – Freshman Dan Couzens (West Hartford, Conn.) won in singles and doubles to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 7-2 victory over the Whittier College Poets in men’s tennis action this afternoon.  Trinity, playing in its spring debut and its first dual-match competition of the 2009-10 season, is 1-0, while the Poets fall to 5-9 with their fourth consecutive defeat. 

The Bantams, ranked No. 5 in the Northeast and No. 15 in the nation, took a 2-1 lead after doubles play and rattled off five straight wins in singles to clinch the match.  Couzens teamed with junior D.J. Patrick (Atlanta, Ga.) for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles, and pulled out a 6-2, 2-6, 10-3 triumph at No. 4 singles in his collegiate debut.  Bantam senior tri-captain Spencer Feldman (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) won at first doubles with sophomore partner Anson McCook (Miami, Fla.) and took the clinching match at No. 1 singles in straight sets.
