Trinity Men's Tennis Trio Reaches ITA Regional Second Round
Williamstown, Mass. - Trinity College senior Jugal Marfatia (Surat, India) and sophomores Dan Carpenter (Wayzata, Minn.) and Ned Mandel (Chevy Chase, Md.) each won opening-round matches before falling in the second round in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship Tournament at Williams College this weekend.
On Friday, Marfatia pulled out the tiebreaker, 10-5, after splitting two sets against Amherst's Russel Einbinder, while Mandel won, 6-4, 7-5 against Adam Reich, of Williams, and Carpenter win with relative ease against Wheaton's Will White, 6-4, 6-0. All three lost in straight sets in the second round of the tournament today. Mandel and classmate Ilya Levin (Wellesley, Mass.) advanced in the doubles bracket, 8-5, against a tandem from Bowdoin on Friday but lost, 8-3, in the second round today. Levin was also entered in the singles tournament but lost in the opening round
