Trinity Rookie Doubles Pair Wins Wallach Men's Tennis Tourney Title

Lewiston, Maine - Trinity College first-years Aaron Segel (Needham, Mass.) and Camden Smith (Dedham, Mass.) won four matches to capture the "B" doubles flight title in the Wallach Men's Tennis Invitational at Bates College this weekend.  Segel also went 3-1 in the "B" singles flight to finish as the bracket runner-up, while senior Jugal Marfatia (Surat, India) and sophomore Ned Mandel (Chevy Chase, Md.) each won two of three matches to finish as "A" singles flight semifinalists.

Segel and Smith won in the opening round, the semifinals, and the finals against a pair from Bowdoin by identical scores of 8-6, and added an 8-3 triumph in the their quarterfinal match.  Segel won easily, 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round of "B" singles play, and pulled out a 7-5, 2-6 (10-5) victory in the quarterfinals and a 3-6, 6-4 (10-8) win in his semifinal match.  He lost in straights sets in the finals. 

Mandel and Marfatia both in straight sets in the opening round of the "A" singles tournament, and Mandel won again in two sets before suffering a 7-6 (0), 2-6, 10-7 loss in the semifinals.  Marfatia upset the bracket's top seed, Bates' Matt Bettles, 6-3, 2-6, (10-5), but lost, 2-6, 6-3 (11-9), in the semifinals.
