Trinity's Moorhead Wins 800 Meters At New England Men's Indoor Track Championships


Medford, Mass. - Senior Sam Moorhead (Dedham, Mass.) won the 800-meter title with a time of 1:56.47 to lead the Trinity College Bantams to sixth place in the New England Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this afternoon.  Trinity finished with 47 points, which was four behind fifth-place Coast Guard.  Williams won the meet with 145 points.

Bantam sophomore Brendan Powers (Middleton, Mass.) added a second-place time of 2:30.70 in the 1,000-meter run, while freshman Michael Burnstein (Brookline, Mass.) came in fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:48.61.  Trinity earned 14 points in the relays, as the Bantam foursome of Moorhead, Powers, junior tri-captain Alex Baillargeon (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Dan Scully came in second place in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:59.67, and the distance medley relay quartet of senior tri-captain Hunter Norte (Ellington, Conn.), junior Matt Dennis (Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore Ricky Lynn (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Wilson McGrail (Wayland, Mass.) came in third at 10:32.12.  All nine Bantam runners earn All-New England honors for their fine performances.  In the throws, Bantam sophomore Mike Goulet (Glastonbury, Conn.) took All-New England in both events with a fourth-place toss of 45'11.25" in the shot put and an eighth place heave of 48'11.75" in the weight throw.
