Trinity Track And Field Hires Former National Champion Edmonson As Its Throws Coach
Hartford, Conn., December 1, 2011 – Bonnie Edmondson (Coventry, Conn.), a two-time national champion in the women’s hammer throw, joins the Trinity College Track and Field staff as an assistant coach. Edmondson was ranked as high as No. 10 in the world and was ranked in the top five in the United States in the women’s hammer throw from 1990-1996. Edmondson has coached at the collegiate and high school levels for more than 15 years and has conducted numerous coaching clinics at the national level. She is presently an education consultant and the school health education coordinator at the Connecticut State Department of Education. Edmondson holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from the University of Hartford, a master's degree in school health education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a bachelor's degree in English and communications from Eastern Connecticut State University.
The Trinity College men’s track and field teams, coached by George Suitor (20th Season), finished 25th at the New England Division III Indoor Championships and competed indoors in the New England Open and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Meets, before placing 11th the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships and 22nd in the New England Division III Indoor Championships, and completing the 2010-11 campaigns at the New England Open and the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships. The Bantam women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams, also coached by Suitor, competed indoors at the New England Division III, New England Open, and ECAC Division III Championship Meets, finished eighth the NESCAC Championships, tied for 20th in the New England Division III Indoor Championships, and completed the 2010-11 campaigns at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships.
In addition to serving as the throws coach of the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in 2003, she was the throws coach in the Pan American Junior Games in 2008, and the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships in 1998. Edmondson has served as the USATF Olympic Development Co-Coordinator for the women’s hammer throw, and is a past member of both the USATF Athlete's Advisory Committee and of the USATF Women's Track and Field Executive Committee. In addition, she was awarded the USATF President's Award for her contribution in the promotion of the hammer throw on both the national and international levels.
