Cambridge, Mass. - The Trinity College men's track and field team wrapped up its schedule on Thursday evening at the Last Chance Qualifier Meet hosted by MIT. Two Bantams were in action in the last event for athletes to qualify for the Division III National Championships. The meet was the last chance to post qualifying marks for the upcoming NCAA Championships in Geneva, Ohio May 25-27. The top 16 relays and the top 20 individuals earn berths into the national championship meet. Results from nine final qualifying meets across the country are due in by midnight Thursday.
Sophomore Samuel Oyebefun (Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis) competed in the 100-meter dash where he set a new personal record with an impressive prelim time of 10.88 and turned in a finals time of 10.99, good for fourth-place. Junior captain Daniel Hughes (Hagley, England) also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing with an eighth-place time of 11.34. Sophomore Luke Mayer (Morristown, N.J.) claimed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.27, just .31 seconds off the first-place time from Southern Maine. Rookie Ace McAlister (Great Barrington, Mass.) closed out an impressive rookie campaign with an eighth place finish in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 3:57.71.
