Softball Captain Mullin Selected As Trinity College's Top Senior Female Athlete

Hartford, Conn., June 15, 2009 - Senior softball co-captain C Ariana Mullin (Woodbridge, Conn.) was selected as the Trinity Club of Hartford Award recipient as the Trinity College senior female athlete of the year for the 2008-09 seasons. Mullin and sophomore 1B Nicole Nardella (Beverly, Mass.) were each selected to the 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Softball All-Conference Second Team, while senior co-captain UT Stacy Hathcox (Woodinville, Wash.) was named to the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. The Bantam softball team, coached by Caitlin Hitchcock (7th Season), posted a 14-17 record and finished third in the NESCAC East with a 5-7 division mark.
Mullin, a two-year captain and a three-time, All-NESCAC honoree, batted a team-high .351 (33-for-94, led team in hits, 3rd in NESCAC in batting average) with team-highs of six home runs (1st in NESCAC) and 20 walks (23rd in nation) to go with 20 runs (T3rd on team), six doubles (T3rd on team), 19 RBI, a team-high slugging percentage of .606, and a team-high on-base percentage of .466 She started all 31 games threw out 10 out of 24 potential basestealers. Mullin has also earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors and NESCAC All-Academic honors twice each. In her fine career, Mullin posted the third-highest batting average in College history at .379 (150-for-396, new College record for hits) with 93 runs, 30 doubles (new College record), three triples, 20 home runs (new College record), 246 total bases (new College record), 103 RBI (new College record), and 56 walks (new College record). An alum of Amity Regional High School, Mullin graduated from Trinity in May with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience. She is the daughter of Anne Marie and Gary Mullin.
Nardella posted a .348 batting average (39-for-112, led team in at-bats and hits) and added team-highs of eight doubles (tied), 25 RBI, and 62 total bases (5th in NESCAC) to go with 20 runs (T3rd on team), five homers (2nd on team), five stolen bases in as many attempts, and a slugging percentage of .554 (2nd on team). Nardella started all 31 games at first base after starting all 31 contests at third base last spring, committing just four errors in 282 chances for a team-best .986 fielding percentage. A graduate of Beverly High School, she is the daughter of Pam and Bruce Nardella.
Hathcox, a two-year captain, a two-year NESCAC All-Academic and NESCAC All-Sportsmanship selection, and the College's junior female scholar athlete of the year in 2008, started for three seasons in the Bantam outfield before making a successful switch to third base this spring. She batted .227 (22-for-97) with seven RBI and made nine errors in 113 chances for a .926 fielding percentage. In her collegiate career, Hathcox batted .227 (78-for-344) with 55 runs, seven doubles, one triples, one home run, 32 RBI, and 32 walks. An alum of Woodinville High School, Hathcox graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in biology. She is the daughter of Barbara Bjarnason.
