Trinity Softball Co-Captains Collect Academic Honors


Hartford, Conn., August 26, 2009 -Trinity College senior co-captain Ariana Mullin (Woodbridge, Conn.) was selected for the ESPN The Magazine 2009 Academic All-District Softball First Team, and joined senior co-captain Stacy Hathcox (Woodinville, Wash.) on the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) 2009 All-Academic Team.  Mullin repeats on both the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team and the NESCAC All-Academic Team, while Hathcox is a two-time NESCAC All-Academic selection.  Each student-athlete voted to the ESPN The Magazine All-District Team must maintain at least a 3.20 g.p.a. and each NESCAC All-Academic honoree must be varsity letterwinner and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.  The Bantam softball team, coached by Caitlin Luz (7th Season), posted a 14-17 record and finished third in the NESCAC East with a 5-7 division mark.

Mullin, a two-year captain and a three-time, All-NESCAC honoree, batted a team-high .351 (33-for-94, led team in hits, 3rd in NESCAC in batting average) with team-highs of six home runs (1st in NESCAC) and 20 walks (23rd in nation) to go with 20 runs (T3rd on team), six doubles (T3rd on team), 19 RBI, a team-high slugging percentage of .606, and a team-high on-base percentage of .466  She started all 31 games threw out 10 out of 24 potential basestealers.  In her fine career, Mullin posted the third-highest batting average in College history at .379 (150-for-396, new College record for hits) with 93 runs, 30 doubles (new College record), three triples, 20 home runs (new College record), 246 total bases (new College record), 103 RBI (new College record), and 56 walks (new College record).  She was selected as the College's Trinity Club of Hartford Award recipient in May as Trinity's top senior female athlete of the year.  An alum of Amity Regional High School, Mullin graduated from Trinity in May with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience.  She is the daughter of Anne Marie and Gary Mullin.

Hathcox, a two-year captain, a two-year NESCAC All-Sportsmanship selection, and the College's junior female scholar athlete of the year in 2008, started for three seasons in the Bantam outfield before making a successful switch to third base this spring.  She batted .227 (22-for-97) with seven RBI and made nine errors in 113 chances for a .926 fielding percentage.  In her collegiate career, Hathcox batted .227 (78-for-344) with 55 runs, seven doubles, one triples, one home run, 32 RBI, and 32 walks.  An alum of Woodinville High School, Hathcox graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in biology.
