Donie, Doyle, And Sims Earn NESCAC All-Academic Honors for Women's Basketball
Hartford, Conn., July 29, 2009 - Trinity College women's basketball senior Catherine Doyle (Cambridge, Mass.), junior co-captain Jessica Sims (Peabody, Mass.), and junior Tess Donie (Worcester, Mass.) were each named to the 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.
Trinity, coached by Wendy Davis (4th Season), posted its best regular season record since 1999-00 at 17-8 and finished tied with Wesleyan and Colby for fifth in the NESCAC at 4-5. The Bantams advanced to the NESCAC semifinal game for the first time in College history with a 76-71 quarterfinal triumph at Bates before succumbing at Bowdoin, 74-56.
Doyle played in 18 games and started once in 2008-09, scoring nine points and grabbing 20 rebounds as a frontcourt reserve. She played in 71 games and started three times in her career, scoring 46 points and 86 rebounds. An alum of Newton Country Day School, Doyle graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in economics and mathematics from Trinity. She is the daughter of Catherine and Terrence Doyle.
Sims played in 23 games at forward and averaged 1.3 ppg (29) and 3.6 rpg (82) while notching 37 steals (2nd on team). A graduate of Peabody Veterans High School, Sims is majoring in Hispanic Studies and psychology at Trinity. She is the daughter of JoAnn and Rick Sims.
Donie started every game at the swing position for the Bantams and averaged 7.2 ppg (180) and 1.9 rpg (47) while notching 46 assists (3rd on team). Donie, who came back from an injury that forced her to miss 13 games as a sophomore, shot 27.7 percent from the field (52-188), 28.3 percent from three-point range (13-46), and finished second on the squad and ninth in the NESCAC with a 77.8 free throw percentage (63-81, 2nd on team in FT and FTA). A graduate of St. Peter Marian High School, Donie is majoring in Hispanic Studies and international studies at Trinity. She is the daughter of Maryann Donie.
